At a well-attended card evening held in Taupiri Public Hall under the auspices of the Taupiri Croquet Club, the first prizes wore won as follows:—Ladies, Mrs. N. Signal; gentlemen, Mr. C. Hill; consolation prizes, ladies, Mrs. J. Murphy; gentlemen, Mr. M. West.

The To Awamutu fire brigade's seventh annual ball was held at the Town Hall this week and proved very successful. Many visitors from Auckland, Hamilton, Te Kuiti, Cambridge, Olorohanga and Ngaruawahia were present, and special guests were the members of the Fire Board, including the two Auckland members, Messrs. G. Nevill and H. Duncan. The hall had been beautifully and appropriately decorated, and Miss Gerrand's orchestra provided excellent music.

During the winter months bridge afternoons havo been held in connection with the Mount Eden branch of the Hospital Auxiliary. Wednesday afternoon was the last of this season's functions and a large number of ladies gathered for play, the Mont le Grand Bowling Club pavilion being well filled. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies' committee. Mrs. Hooton outlined the work carried on by the auxiliary and stressed the need for funds to carry it on. Prizes for the highest score were won by Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Fowler.
