NOTES ON THE FORM

GANPAT'S GOOD DIVIDEND FAILURE OF BAMBURY ALL HUMBUG'S EASY WIN [BY TELEGRAPH—RACING REPORTER] WANGANUI, Thursday The Aucklander Illuminelli ivas a better favourite than Hawora and Dakar for the Maiden Race, but the best she could do after having every chance was to finish fifth. Glowlight and Hawora were the smartest to begin, and they led early from Swift and Sure, Dakar and Illuminelli. Rounding the turn Hawora began to lose ground and Swift and Sure ran up to Glowlight, while Daknr took third position. Swift and Sure led inside the distance, and she held oil a challenge from Dakar, to win by about a length. Taitoru finished on to get third, a length and a-half away, and Cape Fair was right tip fourth. Then in clo6e order followed Glowlight, Royal Papa a^id'Boon. Tho winner is a solid-looking three-year-old, who should do well in the hack class. Dakar is also a smart galloper, and he will be better suited on bigger courses. Glowlight looked as if she would be improved by a race. Hawora stopped •quickly. High Commissioner's Victory "Well ridden by R. C. Miles, High Commissioner opened his winning account with an easy victory in the Okehu High Weight Handicap, for which he was a good second fancy to Henry of Navarre. Bon Eve carried on the pace making, and High Commissioner ran up second after going three furlongs. Nothing had a chance with High Commissioner 111 the straight, and he won going away by four lengths from Okapua, who defeated Henry of Navarre by half a length. Warfille was a moderate fourth, with the others well beaten. Henry of Navarre wa3 not well handled. Bon Eve stopped quickly, but may do better over a shorter distance on the second day. The three-year-old Farmer was favourite for the Putiki Hack Handicap and, after making a fine effort to win from end to end, he was just beaten in the last few etridos by Kotaki Eka, who was fifth choice in the betting. Kotaki Eka and Farmer showed out quickly. Nearing the half-mile Thrauher and Seamond rushed up on the outside, and the order at the top was Farmer, Arikitea, Thrasher, Kotaki Eka, Seamond and Tigerism. That was the order into the straight. Kotaki Eka finished fast on the outside to beat Farmer by a head. Arikitea was a length away third, and Tigerism was a close fourth, and the next to finish were Seamond and lnvictus. The unlucky horse was Thrasher, the second favourite, who struck trouble at tho start and was nearly last going out of the straight. He made a fine run along the back, but could not go on with it in the last half furlong. Tigerism and Seamond were rlso a little unlucky. Tangiroa lost his rider at the five furlongs post. Tho Seafield Handicap All Humbug was better fancied than Royal Bengal and Orby's Choice for the Seafield Handicap, and he acted right up to expectations by winning easily. Refresher and Fiji were the leaders into the straight from All Humbug. Royal Bengal, Grand Jury and Orby's Choice. Once All Humbug was asked for a serious effort he soon disposed of the leaders and won running away by two lengths from Fiji, who was a length and a-half in front of Orby's Choice. Cluny finished on strongly to get. fourth, ahead of a bunch comprising Refresher. Korolcio, Chopin, Royal Bengal anjl Grand Jury. The winner is very fit and won handsomely. Fiji was at a good price and did well for his first race of the season. Refresher finished weakly, but Orby's Choice ran on solidly after being placed on tho rails near the turn, eventually having to come to the outside. Two moderately-fancied horses, Ganpat and Aga Khan, filled the dividend : places in the Durie Hack Handicap, for which Bambury, Gay Court and Carfex were best supported. Dick Whittington and Bambury were out four lengths clear of Ganpat at the top, but they were coming back at the turn, where Ganpat and Carfex were closing up, with Davistock and Aga Khan next. The leaders collapsed in the straight and Ganpat ran on score by a length and a-half from Aga Khan, who beat Carfex by half a neck. Gay Court was fourth, succeeded by Bambury, Dick Whittington and Chief Marionette. Ganpat was at double-figure odds. Bambury failed to go on after setting a fast pace, but Aga Khan, Carfex and Gay Court all ran solid races, Gay Court coming from a good way back. Teller Just Beats Statuary Rua:nui, Teller and Gibraltar were best fancied for the Marangi Handicap, but Teller was the only one to take a prominent part in the finish, and he just got home from Statuary, who was the outsider of the field. Statuary made most of the running from Teller and Ruanui, with Gibraltar tailed off. The field was well strung out along the back, but _ closed up near the turn, where Teller joined' the leader. A fine race home saw Teller prevail by half a head from Statuary, who was two length 3 in front of Atholspear. Gibraltar ran 0:11 at the end to get fourth, ahead of Ruanui, Little Doubt and Vitnphone. Teller displayed marked improvement upon his Martow running, and so did Statuary. Atholspear ran another creditable race, but Little Doubt again failpd to show any dash. Gibraltar got very badly placed early, but. was staying on at the finish, where Ruanui weakened. Royal Hunting, Orapai and View Halloo were most in demand for the Flying Handicap, which proved easy for View Halloo. Orapai, King Ford and Royal Hunting raced abreast in the lead across the top and into the straight, with Consent and View Halloo next. The speed was telling on the leaders when they straightened up, and View Halloo soon shot to the front to win easing up by two lengths from La Moderne. who beat Consent for second by half a length. Orapai was fourth, followed by Sir Pombal, Royal Hunting and Aston. Orapai, King Ford and Royal Hunting beat one another out in front, Orapai staying on the best of the trio. View Halloo was a good way back after the first furlong, but made short work of the opposition at the finish. La Moderne. second to last most of the way. finished on very solidly, and she looks like being an early winner. TWO-YEAR-OLD PARADE GOOD IMPRESSION BY MIDIAN [BY TELEGRAPH —RACING REPORTER] WANGANUI, Thursday Something in the nature of a full dress rehearsal for the Debutante Stakes took place before racing commenced at Woncanui to-day when ten two-year-olds were sprinted with the colours up from a barrier start. They covered a distance of approximately two furlongs, and Midinn finished just ahead of Dinelli and Diatomus, with Red Manfred. Widden, and Pegged Exchange next. The youngsters were not ridden out. all being on the bit once they had settled down, but Midian began very smartly and has evidenVy benefited by his rnce at Marton, where he finished strongly after pottinr; interfered with at the start. Dinelli and DiAtomus also shaped well. With the exception of Hugo. Round Table and Quietly, who ran very green round the turn. all moved smoothly. Two novioes, Al! Supreme and Bold Baron, were also allowed to run along from a barrier start. Bold Baron wheeled round and unseated his rider when the tapes were released, but jumped out fairly well at the second attempt. All Supreme behaved very sedately and looks a useful sort.
