OFFER TO MEDIUM
SPIRITUALISM IN LONDON ! AUCKLAND MAN'S CONTRACT The Auckland medium, Mr. Claude McLaughlin, known in spiritualist circles as Claude Dolores, has been invited to London under contract to give seances, an opening fee of £IOOO being mentioned. He will leave for Sydney on his way to England by the Maunganui to-day. A prominent Auckland accountant, who hns received an invitation by cablegram on behalf of Mr. McLaughlin, stated yesterday that am original fee of £IOOO had definitely been mentioned, and there also was a suggestion that there would be a second contract to the amount of about £SOOO. The message was forwarded to Auckland by Mrs. Margaret Macpherson, formerly of Manurewa, who recently went to London to negotiate on behalf of Mr. McLaughlin. "It is more than piobable that the invitation is the result of a project of a London newspaper syndicate," the accountant commented. He added that one of the most prominent figures in English journalism had been mentioned in tho contract, but he was not in a position to divulge, the name. It was significant, however, that the Australian medium, Bailey, would be in London in November, apparently under engagement by another syndicate. Mr. McLaughlin was originally to leave Auckland in October, but it was now demanded that he should sail from New Zealand immediately, there being a suggestion that he should arrive in London before the Australian medium.
Mr. McLaughlin confirmed the circumstances of the invitation when he was interviewed at his residence, 3 Cross Street, Newton. He also mentioned that Dr. H, McNicoll, of Auckland, who was now in London, was interested- in his work, as well as Mrs. Macpherson, who had taken with her data regarding the phenomena of his m^diumship.
"I understand tho offer of £IOOO to be for several sittings of sleep writing and psychical phenomena," Mr. McLaughlin stated. "Mrs. Macpherson has interested a number of people in London in my work, and I understand my services will later be required by tho Psychical Research Society under a three months' engagement." .
