TE KUITI FIRE
HEAVY. LOSS OF STOCK DETAILS OF INSURANCES ["ny TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE KUITI, Tuesday The back portion of one of Te Kuiti's main business areas was a blackened, smoking mass this morning following the fire last night, which completely destroyed a block of shops. The fronts of the buildings are still standing, but the rear portions were completely destroyed. The buildings were insured for a total of £IO2O in the Guardian Office. Other insurances were as follows: —Mr. H. 0. Evans, boot and shoe stock, £I7OO in the Standard Office, Te Kuiti Bargain Stores, stock and fittings, £I6OO in the State Fire Office, Mr. D. McCorkindale, saddler, stock, £SOO in the Victoria Office. Mr. S. Hogan, tobacconist, stock, £3OO in the National Office. ,
Mr. McCorkindale owned the shop he occupied and that occupied by Mr. Hognn. The Bargain Stores premises were owned jointly by Mr. McCorkindale and Mr. G. McDonald, of Te Ivumi. The premises occupied by Luen Cheng and Mr. Evans were also owned by Mr. McDonald. The stock in four of the shops was completely destroyed. The premises occupied by Mr. Hogan were only partially damaged. The buildings form one of the oldest blocks in Te Kuiti, having been built 27 years ago. The cause of the fire is unknown.
