The former batted first and made 200 runs (Keeton, 22; Townsend, 81; Staples, 60). Larwood took one wicket for 17 runs; Tate, none for 9; Voce, one for 33; Verity, five for 59; Brown, none for 45; Mitchell, three for 29. England in the first innings had made 5 for none when stumps were drawn. Sutcliffe and Leyland were the opening pair.

PLA'YERS BEAT GENTLEMEN i HONE'S CONSISTENT BATTING LONDON, Sept. 2 The Players beat the Gentlemen at Folkestone by 47 runs. Players scored 194 and 370 (S. Worthington 129). M. J. C. Allom took four wickets for 74. The Gentlemen made 277 (B. W. Hone 136) and 240 (Hone 56). Freeman took six wickets for 123, giving him a total of 11 for the match.
