ACTION IN AUSTRALIA 1 MEETINGS NOW PROHIBITED NUMEROUS DEPORTATIONS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received September 4. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 4 The Federal Government, acting in conjunction with the State authorities, is taking drastic action to suppress Communists and similar illegal organisations in New South Wales and Victoria. Owners of premises at Sydney and Melbourne where Communist activities are carried on have been served with official notices prohibiting the holding of meetings by those bodies. The penalty for disobedience is a fine of £IOO, or in default imprisonment for six months. The State police have been directed to insist upon the observance of the latw. The Commonwealth Attorney-General, Mr. J. G. Latham, states that since the Lyons Government took office 53 Communists have been deported.
