POUND NOTE RESTORED

STOLEN FOUR YEARS AGO GIVEN BACK AS CHANGE A one pound note, stolen over four years ago, was restored to its original owner in a remarkable manner while he was shopping in Karangahape Road on Friday evening. Ihc note was a New Year present to his wife from Mr. H. Hamilton, of Grafton. It was one of a brand new issue and Mr. Hamilton wrote in ink, on the back of it: —"Good luck for New Year, 1928." While she was visiting on the following day Mrs. Hamilton's bag was rifled and the note disappeared. The thief was arrested, but the money was not recovered. Mr. Hamilton was, therefore, greatly surprised to receive the same note from a shopkeeper on Friday, with his good luck message still very distinctly legible. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton regard the incident as a good omen. „
