AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP L. G. HEMUS DEFEATS K. TAIT The Auckland provincial amateur billiarda championship for the Billiards, Shield was continued last evening at Messrs. Billiards, Limited, showrooms, L. G. Hemus defeating K. Tait in tho second game of the third round. Hemus scored with consistency in the early stages and made rung of 21 and 33, giving him over 60 lead at the first hundred mark. Tait was-not displaying his usual consistency, and his opponent gained a good lead of one hundred points soon after in adding a break of 27. Tait gave a glimpse of his form in legistering an all-round break of 45 before failing over an easy cannon. He scored well at this stage and made up the* leeway, the score being 243 all. Tait made a break of 26 and gained a plight advantage. Hemus, however, regained the lead after passing the three hundred mark and was scoring freely without making any breaks of note. He led with the scores 395 to 314. Tait was playing much below "his form and could do nothing right. Breaks of 26 and 24 by Hemus gave him a good lead at the critical stage of the game. A further run of 26 made the score 460 to 368 in his favour. He maintained his advantage and won a hard-fought contest by Iffi points. • The final scores were:—h. G. SNOOKER FINAL . , The final of tho Auckland open snooker championship was played last night and was won by Davie3 by superior pottingi . Davies played with confidence and potted balls from all angles. Davies early had Mackay in difficulties, and by superior potting and positional play soon had the first ' game won by 78 to 15. Tho second game was similar to the first. Davies, by splendid potting, making a 20 break. He followed this with a 22. Mackay, playing a long way below form, had a hard task in trying to keep the balls 6afe. Davies finished with a brilliant 'break of 35 and placed the game beyond doubt, winning by 74 to 24.
