SOME INTERESTING TRIALS EUREKA BOY'S TWO MILES SILVER DE ORO WORKS WELL

The next trotting meeting is that of the New Brighton Club next Saturday. Some interesting work was done on tho track last Saturday morning,, when the trestles were placed about three sulky widths out from the rails, and a 2.23 gait was as good as 2.18 on a firm track at Addington. W. J. Tomkiason and G. McKendry were present with, teams. A great deal of interest centred in the work-out of Eureka Boy. He tackled a twomiles journey and was assisted over the last mile and a-quartor by Morrison, tion, in saddle, joined in at tho mile. Eureka Boy jogged the first half-mile in 1.22. The order of the three entering on the last inilo was Location, Morrison and Eureka Boy at two-lengths intervals. Eureka Boy did not make his run until well into the straight, and it did not require much pressing on the part of his driver to take him past his rivals. He gavo a very pleasing performance it; registering 4.58, tho last mile and a-half in 3.34 and the last mile in 2.20 2-5. which bettered any other figures for eprmtmg efforts of tho morning. Silver de Oro gained friends by tho smooth manner in which she left two miles behind in 4.42. She was never full out and showed 3.32 2-5 for the first mile and a-half. . Directum gave a few turns in circus triclta before he could be induced to leave on a mile mission with Willie Derby. Tho latter, in saddle, was always out in iront, and clocked 2.27 for tho mile. 1.8 3-5 for the last half. Headlight, with G. McKendry on top. went away behind Donard and, Molly Desborough at the mile peg. He did not begin too well, and always appeared to be making hard work of it. Molly Desborougli and Donard finished together in 2.24, and Headlight was about four lengths nack. Country King, Tempest and Wrecker went away iu that order from th 6 mile and ji-Jialf. They raced in close order until tho last two furlongs, when Wrecker moved up and finished on terms with Country King in 3.30. after the first milo in 2.31. lem pest was close up. Steel All ca'.aio home with them over tho last Quarter. ' Accumulator went in the air several tunes whilo working a mile and a-half with bt. Petrox, who went solidly Betty Wrack and Lord Matchliglit were never extended whilo going a mile. Deity Wrack could have improved a lot on tho X.J she registered for tho last half. _ Margaret Parrish trotted a. mile 111 good style, maintaining a level gait, and coming over the lust half in 1.11 2-5. Reylet shaped pleasingly over a mile in O OJ " oil! Bird, after starting off unevenly and failing to settle down properly until he had gone two furlongß, reeled off a mile m 2 25 2-5. - -i Golden Cross assisted Radley in a mile and a-half spin. Golden Cross enjoys something of a reputation among the three-je.vr olds at New Brighton. G. S. Smith has him in good shape. Radle.v is nnpioving at tho barrier since Mr.. A. J. FREE LOGAN GOES SOUTH SADDLE RACE AS MISSION The Claudelands-trained pacer Free Logan was taken south last week by his owner, C. Moran. to fulfil his engagement, in the Electric Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. It is a mile saddle race, '2.17 limit, and oil a 2.1G mark Freo Logan, if he steps away correctly. should give the southern saddle horsos something to do to beat him. Lnless Moran niters his plans while 111 C hristchurcb, Freo Logan will race at the Wellington meeting on September 10 and return home to compete at the Waiknto Trotting Club's fixturo on October 8. As the season advances Freo Logan will bo tried o\ci t<\o miles when- the limits suit. STAKE-WINNINGS AT EPSOM WAIKATO OWNERS HEAD LIST

The success of Pegaway in both hi,s starts at Epsom on Saturday placed his owner. Mr. A. Cook, of To Awamutu, at the head of tho list of winning owners with £-150. Mrs. R. W. Burch, of Hamilton, who won the principal race, the August Handicap, *witrh Prince Pedro, was next with £l4O. The ouly other competitor to reach three figijres was Moko Girl, whose first and second netted £IOO for Mr. T. H. Dye. . F. J. Smith, with Guid Ilairat and Little Guy, and E. N. Kennerley. with Pegaway twice shared the trainers and drivers' honours, capturing half the races between them. Epsom-trained horses. Little Gu v. -Guid Hairst, Wee Machine and Moko Girl, accounted for four of the eight races. Waikato representatives. Pegaway (2) and I nnce Pedro, scored three successes, wjulc the remaining winner, Moko Bells, is trained at Mangere. _____
