DAY FOR TWEED SUITS THE NEW SPRING HATS Fine weather favoured the Auckland Trotting Club's August meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday, but it appeared still too early for many of tho new spring fashions to make their debut to any marked degree. Tailored suits were the most appropriate and popular apparel for the day, brightened iu many cases with attractively-patterned crepo de chine stocks or scarves. Quite a number of women wore the Jiew sailor-shaped hats of coarse straw with their tweed suits, and there were also a few of the qmiint little Breton sailor hats to be seen. Brown and fawn were the shades most worn .in Saturday, but, while lather dull in themselves, the effect was considerably brightened by the hat, a coloured scarf or other accessories. Among those present were: —Mrs. H. R. H. Chalmers, "who wore a brown patterned crepe de chine frock with a brown tweed coat and brown felt hat; Mrs. J. W. Ryan, black sealskin coat and nigger brown velour hat; Mrs. R. T. Reid (Hamilton), grey cloth coat with squirrel collar and cuffs, and a royal bluo Breton sailor hat; Airs. N. E. Burton, cocoa brown ensemble and brown velour hat to match; Mrs. D. McDonald, black ensemble with a black and white patterned crepe de chine scarf aiu 4 small black felt hat; Mrs. T. Simpson, ; /awn tweed suit with skunk furs and a chocolate brown felt hat; Mrs. Hugh Fraser, black coat with a black fur collar, and hunter green felt hat; Mrs. C.
