DAY FOR TWEED SUITS THE NEW SPRING HATS Fine weather favoured the Auckland Trotting Club's August meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday, but it appeared still too early for many of tho new spring fashions to make their debut to any marked degree. Tailored suits were the most appropriate and popular apparel for the day, brightened iu many cases with attractively-patterned crepo de chine stocks or scarves. Quite a number of women wore the Jiew sailor-shaped hats of coarse straw with their tweed suits, and there were also a few of the qmiint little Breton sailor hats to be seen. Brown and fawn were the shades most worn .in Saturday, but, while lather dull in themselves, the effect was considerably brightened by the hat, a coloured scarf or other accessories.
