OHOPE BEACH ACCESS
FUNDS FOR MAKING ROAD RATING AREA OPPOSED The formation of a special rating area to. provide fiends for the construction of a short access road to Ohope Beach, near Whakatane, was discussed at a meeting • of the Ohope Beach Progress League last . week. Members expressed strong opposition to the proposal, holding that it was unfair' that section-owners should be rated t<s provide abroad which would be used fey people from all over the Dominion. It was stated that the beach, as a holiday resort, was attpacting tourists from as far afield as Christchurch, but the present long and hilly road from Whakatahe prevented many from making the trip. ' It was decided to urge the Whakatane County Council to provide a short route the back of the cliffs, it, being considered that the establishment of an un•mploj'ed workers'. camp would be the best method of having the work done.
