DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS .-v • '■ • 'J " - H : - 1 , ;tk ,_ ' ■ G. MARTIN WINS SINGLES TITLE SUCCESS OF MiSS J. RAMSAY , The chief events in the New Zealand badminton championships were finalised on Saturday evening before a good- attendance of spectators. After being severely tested by I. Ellett in the semi-final, G. Martin defeated G. H. Philson with a good deal to spare in the final of the men's singles. In the men's doubles E. W. Griffiths and J. Southon had little difficulty in coming through. Miss J. Ramsay defeated Miss A. Ellett in the final of the ladies' singles event after a three-sets match. The first and second games were closely fought, but in the third Miss Ramsay had a margiu of superiority. Mrs. C. Wren and Miss T. T>. . Newton combined better than Misses Ramsay and Harrison and won the doubles in straight sets. All four players in the combined doubles were obviously feeling the strain of previous matches and were not at their best. J. Southon and Miss A. Ellett won the title after a close threesets contest. All the title-holders are Aucklanders. In presenting the trophies, the president of the New Zealand Badminton Associa'tion, Mr. E. W. Griffiths, congratulated the winners and thanked those who had assisted in running the tournament. Following are the results: — A GRADE ' Men's Championship Singles.—Semi-finals: G. Martin beat I.
