WHEAT FOR POULTRY

GOVERNMENT'S IMPORTATION LITTLE SAVING TO CONSUMER It is not likely that the Government's decision to import wheat as poultry food for sale to merchants in the North Island at 5s 3d a bushel, ex-wharf at Auckland arid Wellington, will result in much relief to the poultry industry, according to Mr. P. H. Wells, of Papatoetoe, a prominent poultry-keeper. Mr. Wells said on Saturdaythat he did not think tho saving woulc! be very great. The merchants could not handle the wheat for a return less than 4d a bushel and this would bring tho cost to the poultry-keeper up to at least 5s 7d. At present tho" price was about 5s 9d, so any saving would hardly bo worth regarding. What poultry-keepers wanted was the admission of wheat into the Dominion duty free, thus lowering the price to possibly 4s 6d a bushel.
