YARRA FLOOD FATALITY
MELBOURNE. Aug:. 1G
Ships which are reaching Melbourne hours late have reported high seas off the coast from Cape Otway to Gabo Island. Several small freighters due on iSunday will not berth until to-day. The Karepo and the Mundala from Adelaide were each 12 hours overdue when they arrived. -Seas which swept over the Bendigo, also from Adelaide, smashed two portholes and flooded the cabins. The decks were almost continually awash. As the result of rain and melting snow the rivers have risen. Slipping from their horses while wading out to release three other horses marooned by the Yarra flood waters at East Kew, Michael Warren, 35, was drowned, and Sydney Parker was rescued in an exhausted state. Parker was saved after clinging to a fence for an hour with water up to his chin.'
