NORTHERN WAIROA CLUB [BX TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DARGAVILLE, Tuesday Tim final of the men's senior championship of the Northern Wairoa Golf Club was played at the week-end, when B. Hdrgra\e defeated F.' C.- Gould at the 39th hole. Hargrave was three up after the morning round, but Gould fought back all the way and ilio game was all square at the Jbtn hole. The next two holes were halved ana Hargrave's successful putt at the 3/tli gave him tho championship. Details of the matches are:—First round: H. Smith beat J. Stark, I>. Goulding beat H. Armitage, B. Hargrave beat R. Johnston, W. Worsley beat E. .Toogood, F. O. Gould beat M. Greville, L. Davies beat V. Boys. J. Wilson beat W. Davidson. W. Smith, a bye. Hargrave is the youngest senior player in tho club and only took up the game last ' season. Gould also is only a second-year player. ROTORUA TOURNAMENT EXCELLENT ENTRIES RECEIVED [from our own correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday Tho Rotorua open amateur championship and handicap golf tournament, which Will be opened next Tuesday, maintains its popularity, as the entries already received indicate. The limit to the number is 00. with handicaps of 16 and under. Up to Saturday 87 entries had been' received. Entries close on Thursday evening. The Auckland team includes the veteran H. B. Lusk, and I. B. Lusk, Dr. Abbott. J ' Tallis and N. Louison. Palmerston North is strongly represented. C. C. Ekstead 1 (srr) heading the list of low handicaps. A. Seifert and S. Hodden are other entrants from Palmerston North. The list of well-known players from other centres includes G. H. I Williams and K. S. Glendenning (Manawatu). J. Goss. I. M. Hussey and F. C. Hewctt, whose aggregate was 145, two more than th® winner's, returned a card of 70 net on the first round and 75 on the second. Ferguson was next with an aggregate of 147. Haworth is playing on a handicap of 16, Hewett on 18 and Ferguson on 10. In the first round of the ladies' senior championship the results were:—Miss E* Robinson belit Mrs. K. Browne. 4 and 3; Miss J. Brewer beat Miss E. Skeet, 1 up; Mrs. Freeman defeated Miss J. Thompson, 2 and 1.
