FOOTBALL SUPREMACY

ENGLAND AND DOMINION TO-DAY'S LEAGUE MATCH GREAT INTEREST AROUSED VISITORS' BEST THIRTEEN Rugby League enthusiasts in Auckland have been keenly awaiting the appearance of the English team and the test match today has aroused such great interest that a record crowd is expected. The teams for the match are as follows : ENGLAND Fullback.—J. Sullivan. Threequarlcrs.—A. Ellaby, A. Atkinson, A. Risman, S. Smith. Five-eighths.—S. Brogden. Halves.—B. Evans, I. Davics (one to bo omitted). Forwards. —J. Thompson, J. Lowe, W. Williams, N. Silcock, A. Fildes, W. Ilorton, M. Hodgson, J. Fcctham (two to be omitted). NEW ZEALAND Fullback.—A. Laing (Auckland). Threequarters.—R. Smith (Auckland), G. List (Auckland), L. Scott (Auckland). Five-eighths. (Auckland), A. E. Cooke (Auckland). Halfback.—J. Masters'(West Coast). Forwards. —J. Calder (West Coast), E. St. George (Auckland), R. Stephenson {South Auckland), M. O'Brien (West Coa6t), T. Timms (South Auckland), L. Hutfc (Auckland). English Players It will bo noted that England has chosen the best test side.' The thirteen which will play to-day is likely to bo tho same as that which defeated Australia in tho third test. Tho appearance of J. Sullivan, captain of the visitors, is suro to create considerable interest. Sullivan is claimed to be the greatest fullback ever to represent England and on this tour he'has upheld that reputation. Spectators can expect brilliant football from Brogden, who is said to bo a very tricky player and a clever attacking back. Tho wings, Smith and Ellaby, are perhaps tho fastest men in tho sido. Smith was among tho leading scorers in English club football last soason and his three tries for England in tho third test against Australia stamp him as a brilliant wing. Ellaby is a powerful player. The centres, Atkinson and Risman, aro thrustful backs, whoso combination did much for England in games against Australia. Risman was originally chosen as a fullback. Atkinson is sure to test tho New Zealand defence. Tho forwards appear a formidable set. Experience and weight will give England a decided advantage in the scrum, although New Zealand's front row may bo successful in winning the ball. Fullback's Responsibility The New Zealand selectors have placed a big responsibility on Laing, tho youthful fullback. Tho Auckland custodian has given good displays in club matches, but ha lacks experience in comparison to Sullivan, who is likely to make Laing's task a moro difficult one. However, Laing is capable of playing a good game. Smith, who' replaced Hart on the wirig, has not previously played in this position. Ho is a five-eighths in local football. Tho selectors may possibly change him and List during tho progress of tho match. The eentro, List, and Cooke and Brisbane, live-eighths, can bo depended upon to do well, Tho appearanco of A. E. Gooko with tho fast Now Zealand Rugby League team is certain to be keenly followed. Cooke has proved himself a clever exponent of tho code. Much will depend on Masters, at halfback. Tho vanguard is a solid line, but every ounco will bo required to give tho homo sido tho ball. In view of tho fact that a largo number of spectators are expected to assemble at an early hour, curtain-raisers will be played from 10 o'clock onwards.

REDUCED PRICES FOR TEST . Genuine unemployed men will be admitted to tho first Rugby League test match at Carlaw Park to-day at tho reduced prico of one shilling and sixpence. Mr. Sneddon informed them that tho matter would bo left in their hands and they could decide on some means of working out tho proposal so that there would be no abuse of tho concession. Tho representatives of the unemployed met again subsequently and arrangements wero finalised.
