TAXATION IN THE SUBURBS
Sir, —This is somo of the taxation the city man is free of—unemployed meetings, subscriptions for hire of hall, bridge evenings for every conceivable object, subscriptions usually 4s; football and other clubs, raffles, tickets never less than a shilling; dances in aid of something or other every week; a baby welfare society that lives entirely on public subscriptions; a community shop that is in direct opposition to traders. In addition to many other objects no doubt worthy, my children are sent round the town and taught to cadge for cocoa fund. They tako anything, fruit, etc., and that ' week the greengrocer cannot pay his rent. Then there are the "bring and buy" meetings. It is up to somo of these collectors to show a little mercy to the small trader. Snob.
