BUSY DAY IN PORT

SEVERAL OVERSEAS SHIPS LARGE CARGO FROM' BRITAIN A busy day was experienced at the port of Auckland yesterday. Vessels at the wharves included five overseas ships, four of which will have sailed by this evening if the weather does not interfere with cargo operations. The Royal Mail liner Niagara arrived from Sydney on Monday morning and resumed her voyage to Vancouver last evening. This afternoon the City of Canton is to sail for Wellington, and the Federal Line steamer Westmoreland and the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Brisbane are to leave for Gisborne this evening to continue loading New Zealand produce for England. The Westmoreland arrived from Opua on Saturday afternoon, the City of Canton from New York on Sunday afternoon, and the Port Brisbane from Launceston yesterday morning. The only vessel which is making a prolonged stay in port is the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Taniaroa, which arrived from Wellington on Monday and is discharging a large general merchandise cargo from London. She is to sail for southern ports on Friday to load for her homeward voyage. Another steamer, the Golden Coast, is due from Los Angeles to-day, but owing to the small amount of cargo to bo discharged she will probably sail for Wellington to-morrow.
