BASKETBALL INCIDENT.
ALLEGATION OF ASSAULT.
GIRL SUES TEACHER.
DAMAGES CLAIM FAILS.-

Basketball girls attended the Inglewood Court in force to-day. Alleging that she had been struck in the face by Miss Mabel Elizabeth Tarry, school teacher and president of the Taranaki Basketball Association, Doreen Alleman, a girl player, claimed £oo for assault.
The magistrate said he /was not satisfied that assault had been proved, an assault being an intentional application of force. He gave judgment for Miss Tarry with £3 3s costs. •
A mass of evidence was given trouble between teams and argument over selection. It was stated -that a meeting of 50' Taranaki delegates had upheld Miss Tarry's action in suspending two girls and had actually suspended three more. It was contended that Miss Tarry, whefa girls crowded round her during an argument at practice, thrust out her hand in a gesture of dismissal and might have • touched the plaintiff on the face..
