RUGBY FOOTBALL.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS GAME. VICTORY FOR MOUNT ALBERT. SACRED HEART TEAM DEFEATED. A most exciting match in the secondary schools senior grade Rugby football competition was played on the Mount Albert ground yesterday afternoon between the first fiiteens of Mount Albert Grammar School and Sacred Heart College. Mount Albert won by 11 points to 8. The first spell wag marked by the splendid bustling play of the Sacred Heart forwards and steady defence on the part of Mount Albert. After the interval Mount Albert exerted more vigour and at one stage outplayed its opponents, ecoring three tries in quick succession. Although the ground was heavy, there were a number of good combined back movements, particularly by Mount Albert. At the outset, Sacred Heart attacked strongly, and for some time Mount Albert was defending desperately. Soon after the start, Sacred Heart lost the services of its right wing,. Kawee, and a few minutes later Stacey, a Mount Albert forward, had to retire, also through injury. They were not replaced. Several times Sacred Heart reached the Mount Albert line but the defending side managed to clear. Eventually Sacred Heart's efforts were rewarded. A sudden loose rush took Mount Albert by surprise and Sexton led a dribbling rush from which O'Regan scored. His kick missed. Sacred Heart continued to and play was mostly confined to Mount Albert territory, until the interval, when the score was: Sacred Heart, 3; Mount Albert, 0. After the resumption, a Mount Albert forward attack, in which McCowan was prominent, was stopped by Pelrie on the line. Sacred Heart repulsed right downfiold, but Mount Albert carried the ball back and Petrie again saved just in time. Mount Albert maintained the pressure, the backs swung into action, and the ball reached Williams, the centre cutting in for a fine try. Johnson failed to convert. It was not long before the Mount Albert forwards, now playing with great dash, assisted Bannatyne to add another try, which Solomon converted. No eooner had the ball been kicked off than a mistake by Shanahan let Mount Albert through. After a clever passing bout between Johnson and Hook, Ker secured and scored. Solomon missed the kick. Some willing exchanges followed, and then Sacred Heart worked- play into the Mount Albert twenty-five, where Foote bullocked his* way across fqr a try near the posts, O'Regan converted. Mount Albert retaliated and was fully testing the defence at the call of time, the score being: Mount Albert, 11; Sacred Heart. 8. Mr. A. J. Dotchin was referee. INTER-HOUSE COMPETITION.
