COUNTRY WEEK TOURNAMENT RESULTS OF SECOND DAY. CUP HOLDERS PLAY WELL. Showing remarkably fow traces of the recent wet weather, the Remuera grounds were in splendid condition for the continuation of tho Auckland Hockey Association's country week tourney yesterday. Although the sky was overcast the weather remained fine and players in the various games showed a ready appreciation of tho conditions by displaying some fast and exhilarating hockey. Both the men's competition for the "White Horse Cup and the ladies' matches for the Provincial Cup were advanced a further stage, and most matches were evenly contested, irrespective of the fact that tho Bcores in several cases indicated otherwise). Tho holders of the White Horse Cup, "Whangarei, disposed of Thames-Hauraki in a game which sparkled with incident, while ■Rodney and Waipa secured victories over Piako and Wliakatane respectively. Progress in the Provincial Cup competition was watched with inte/est and the fine standard displayed by the ladies' teams on the opening day of tho tourney was maintained. The trophy is at prosent in the keeping of Auckland A, wln c k further enhanced its chances of retaining same oy defeating Northern Wairoa yesterday. _\Vhangarei A carried a clear-cut superiority which gave it victory in tho game against Kerepeelii, while wins were also registered by Paeroa, Whangarei B and Auckland Collegiate. Play will be continued to-day, when it is anticipated that outstanding matches will result from the meeting of Whangarei and Rodney in tho White Horse Cup competition and Auckland A and Paeroa in the ladies' competition. . [by teleghaph.—press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. At a meeting of tho committee of the New Zealand Hockey Association, the Poverty Bay, <Otago and Bush Associations wiote voicing disapproval of the method of selection of the New Zealand team. Messrs. S. G. Holland and the secretary were deputed to frame a reply. The Poverty Bay Association wrote chal lenging for the New Zealand Challenge Shield, with a request that the fee provided by them last year be accepted for this season's challenge. The matter was referred to a sub-committee.
