DEATH OF A STUDENT.
SELF-INFLICTED WOUND.
VERDICT AT THE INQUEST,
An inquest concerning the doath of Colin William Johns, aged 23, a letteroarrier employed at the chief post office, was held before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., coroner, yesterday. Evidence was given that on Monday morning deceased was found lying on the floor of his room in a city block of flats, lie was dead, with a bullet wound through his heart. A discharged rifle, with a cord attached to the trigger, was near the body.
Tho following note was found on deceased's body:—"To whom it may concern. For the satisfaction of official curiosity this affair was entirely by my own hand. —C. W. John, Sunday, 10th." Deceased was a student at the Auckland University College and was studying for the degree of bachelor of commerce. His parents livo in tho Raglan district. When last seen by his fellow-employees at the post office on Saturday he was in his usual good health and spirits. Ho had never given any indication of his intention to commit suicide. The coroner returned a verdict that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
