DAIRYING SEASON.

THE CAMBRIDGE COMPANY.

DECREASE IN PRODUCTION. [from: our own correspondent.] CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. In the season just closed the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company manufactured 2860 tons of cheese, 86 tons of whey butter and 757 tons of butter, compared with 3260 tons of cheese, 82 tons of whey butter and 694 tons of butter the previous season. The quantity of butterfat handled by the 9 compauy was 3,842,1971b. The chairman of directors,- Mr. F. H. Anderson, reports that the summer and autumn were even drier in this district than in the previous year, and this, together with the unfortunate fact that farmers had been financially unable to keep their herds up to the standard of the last few years, accounted for the company's production being 3£ per cent, lower than in the previous season. The directors had relied upon a consignment policy during the year as the safest course to follow.

With good surpluses in the butter and cheese accounts the final estimated payments being made are as follows: — Butter: Average advance 10.189 d per lb. butter-fat and forward payments of 1.24 d per lb., total 11.429 d. Cheese:• Average advance 11.039 d per lb. butter-fat, final payments .735 d, total 11.774 d. The whole of the company's plant is in a very efficient condition and capable of dealing with an increased supply.
