AUCKLAND FRENCH CLUB.

The monthly social of Iho Auckland French Club was held in the club rooms last evening, when an entertaining and amusing programme was presented by Madame W. Spiers and Madame Foley. Mr. Ardern made a presentation on behalf of the mcmbo.rs to Mr. J. M. Bertram, this year's Rhodes Scholar, and a member of the committee of the club, who leaves this month for England to continue his studies. Mr. Bertram suitably responded. The opportunity was also taken to farewell Mr. Yockney, who is leaving almost immediately for Paris A. scene from tho comedy "La Poudre Aux Yeux" created much amusement, those taking part being Mrs. Jack Berman as Emmeline, Miss Marie O'Kane as Alexandrine, Miss Yvonne Creugnet as Madame Ratinois, Mr. Edward Morton as M. Frederic Ratinois, Madame Spiers and Mr. T. G. Mackenzie as Madame and Monsieur Malingoar. Musical and elocutionary items were as follows: —Trio, Mendelssohn IV. Symphony, Miss Doel piano, Miss Brown 'cello, Mrs. Edmonds violin; song, "Fantaisie," Miss Gladys Barton; recitation, "La Maison de Jacques," by Miss Mary Spiers; monologue by Mrs. 11. Dreaver; recitative, "The Erl King" in English and French, by Madame Spiers; instrumental trio, "Barcarolle," by Messrs. Francis and Max Iveefe, and Mr. Lionel Johns. An exhibition of lightning sketching was given by Hedd.i Dyson, and the serving of supper concluded a most enjoyable evening.
