new director, appointed.
MR. H. B. BUTLER'S POST. (Received July 3, 5.5 p.m.) GENEVA, July 2. Mr. Harold . Berasford Butler has been appointed Director of the International Lalx-ur 05ce, in succession to the late M Albert- Thomas.
Mr. Butler has been deputy-director of the International Labour Office since 1520He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, and was a Fellow of Ail Souls College' from 19015-1912 He entered the Civil Service in 1937, and was soon transferred to the Home Office. In 1916 be became secretary to the Foreign Traae Department of the Foreign Otnce, and thiis was followed, by successive appointments as Assistant Secretary and then Principal Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Labour. Mr. Butler was assistant general secretary to the Labour Commission at the Peace Conference in 1919, and secretary-general to the International Labour Conference at Washington in the same year. He' is 43 years of age.
