RIFLE SHOOTING.

MATCHES AT PENROSE. A novelty pairs match was organised by the Auckland City Defence Rifle Club and the New Zealand Engineers and Signallers between riflemen and volunteers on Saturday afternoon at Penrose over the 200 and 300 yards ranges. The practice comprised six shots at the running man at 200 yds, followed by 10 rapid and 10 snap at 300 yds. The plan adopted was that each rifleman drew a volunteer and the total of their scores, plus handicaps, was compared with that of any* other pair. Some very good scores were registered, the best off the rifle being:—C. J. M. Clark (City); 92: A. G. Devore (Akarana), 90; G. G. Kelly (City), 86; T, IT. Busck (New Zealand Engineers), 8-1: S. Griffiths (City), 81; H. Sitnmonds (City), 81; K. R. Knight (City), 80. Silver spoons presented by Captain Clifton were won by C. J. M. Clark and T. H. Busck.

A pairs match was won by Kennell and Griffiths with 184, second place being taken by Boives and Busck with 182. Details of the shooting are;—A. R. Kennell and S. Griffiths, 184; T. H. Busck and F.
