MR. BUTCHER APPOINTED;

The appointment is announced of Mr. J. W. Butcher, assistant Govern went. Statistician, to tho position of Government Statistician, to fill the vacancy created by tho appointment of Mr. .Malcolm Fraser as Under-Secrotary of Internal Affairs.
Mr. Butcher was first appointed to a. cadtetsliip in the statistical branch of the Reeistrar-Guneral's office in 1906, being promoted in May, 1915, to the position of chief compiler at the Governmei. < Statistician's office. He was sistant-Government Statistician in 19<2J. Mr. Butcher is a keen tramper, and has been a member of tho Tararua Tramping Club since its formation. He ■was lor inanv years club captain of the Karon Hockey Club and is still a member of the committee of the club.
