HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. FINE AND BRIGHT. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied byMr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—Small depressions have passed both north and south of the Dominion. Another high barometric pressure system, enclosing an area of fine weather, is moving on to New Zealand from the west, and there is now no disturbance of any consequence within a considerable distance of the Dominion. Indications favour fair to fine weather generally, with very cold night temperatures, and frosts inland. Expect very high barometric pressure. South-easterly winds, light to moderate, succeeded by light, variable breezes. Seas smooth to moderate. Local outlook:—Fine and bright. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.25 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.05 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, sCdeg.; minimum, 43d«g. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The centre of an intense anti-cyclone has moved on to southern New Zealand, while the pressure remains comparatively low over the northernmost districts, and in the vicinity of the Chatham Islands. Indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale force at first between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, but decreasing; elsewhere, light to moderate. Seas rough between Akaroa and East Cape; elsewhere moderate. In the Tasman Sea, moderate south to east winds, and moderate seas. The weather will be changeable, squally and showery in the eastern districts, from Canterbury northward; elsewhere, fair to fine. Cold temperatures with some severe frosts in the southern portiorf of the South Island. RAINFALL RECORD.
