PARTIALLY UNFIT MEN.
ATTITUDE OF THE BOARD.
TREATING CASES ON MERITS. HOSPITAL BOARD'S ATTITUDE. The attitude the Auckland Hospital Board intends to take up in respect to men classified as partially unfit- by the Unemployment- Board was outlined by Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, last evening. "The Hospital Board will treat -every case on its merits, but it will not bo dictated to by the Unemployment Board's classification of the men," he said. A circular letter had been received by his beard from the unemployment authorities stating that the B2 classification—"men fit for light work in town only"—comprised mostly aged and incapacitated, such as one-armed, men. While {he Hospital Board admitted its responsibility for looking after incapacitated men, it was not going to leave the Unemployment Board to judge what men came under its liability. Mr. Wallace added that he had received a telegram from the secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board stating that it had been decided to abide by the arrangement niada at the hospital boards' con-ference-—to provide for C class men only —that is, men not fit for work of any kind.
The secretary of the Hospital Boards' Association in Wellington was instructed by Mr. Wallace to advise the Unemployment. Board that the Auckland board wouid deal with each case on its merits.
