BOROUGH RATES REDUCED.
DECISION AT CAMBRIDGE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Friday. At a meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council last evening it was unanimously decided to reduce the rates by J,d. As a result of this decision, the consolidated rates will bo reduced from 4gd to The water rate of 2Jd and the flat rate sewerage charge of £1 for cisterns will remain as before. The lower rates will mean an estimated reduced revenue of £IOOO. As compared with last year, the estimated expenditure has been drastically cut.
The council has budgeted for an expenditure of £17,560, including £IOOO unemployment outlay, subject to reimbursement. Last year the council commenced with a debit balance of £448 and ended the period with a debit of £3OO. The bus service between Cambridge and Hamilton was discussed and a committee was set up to consult the Chamber of Commerce and to report back to the council.
