AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION

SUCCESS OF PAST SEASON

Tlio report to bo presented nt the annual meeting of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, on Tuesday, July 12, states that tlio past season had been full of incident nnd progress and reflected the steady rise of lawn tennis in public favour. A numbe* of clubs joined the association during the year. It was hoped that next year would Bhow a still greater increase. An endeavour was being mode to affiliate the Churches' Association, and to create a new sub-association centred at Helensville. During the year provision had been made for tho admission of singlo court clubs as a sub-association. Four clubs affiliated and more were expected to join during the coming season.

An attempt was made to bring'to Auckland a team of four Australian men. Arrangements fcould not bo finalised, but an endeavour would be made during the 1033 season to get a tenm, with the object of playing throughout tho Auckland subassociations. Matches were played by Auckland representative teams against the Hauraki.Plains, Waikato and Thames Valley Associations. The tournament fixtures held wero increasingly popular from tho point of view of both players nnd spectators. Tlio Auckland championship meeting was again highly successful. The New Zealand championships, coupled with tho test match. New Zealand ladies v. Australian ladies. Kathleen Nunnellv Casket competition, Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield competition, provided ten days of excellent tennis much appreciated by the public. The financial return was also good. The hard court championships wero played at Windmill Road courts nnd tho meeting attracted great attention. Later in the season tho Australian D«:vis Cup team, comprising J. Crawford, H. Hopman, C. Sproulo nnd ,T. Clemenger and Mrs. Crawford, played exhibition matches and matches agninst Auckland, represented by N. O. Shut, A. L. Stedman and Miss '■Mflcfnrlane,_ The association appreciated tho way in which the visitors met tho arrangements. Tho association hoped to receive a visit of the team on .its return and also from tho Amoricans and tho two Frenchmen.

Inter-club matches were on the increase and tho inter-club committee had worked hard accomplish such satisfactory rCsuits. Tho season had marked tho acquisition of fifteen new hard courts nt Windmill Rond. Thoso courts had proved of great benefit for inter-club matches, for the hard court championships and for the secondary and primary schools championships. Tho secondary and primary school tournaments wero agnin well contested and iuirch prominent talont was displayed. Tho balance-sheet shows a credit balance of JC22G on tho ycar'3 working.

HALLYBURTON-JOIINSTONE CLUB. A very sound position was disclosed by tho report and balance-sheet presented n.t tlio annual meeting of tho Hnll.vburtonJohnstono Lawn Tennis Club. Tho report statod that tho membership was still increasing. Although only a comparatively young club groat progress had been mado during the past year. The club also had the distinction of winning tho D grade inter-club championship of tho Auckland Association.

Rose, Williams, Pitcher, Itodwell. Gardner, Healey, It. Wobb, Forrest and Johnstone; ladies' committee, Mesdames Schado, Marshall, Lawrie and Miss McLeay. MANGERE CLUB'S YEAR, A very successful season was shown by tho report presented at tho annual meeting of tho Mangero Lawn Tennis Club. The bank overdraft showed o. reduction of £-1?, duo to an increased membership and voluntary lobour supplied by members. Tho following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. W. W.
