The Salvation Army's struggle through persecution and misrepresentation to win public appreciation was recounted by General Higgins, world leader of tho Army, in an address at the Civic Theatre yesterday. The Government's appreciation of the Army's work in New Zealand was expressed by the Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who presided. On tho platform with the main speakers were, church representatives and Salvation Army officers. The the.itr« was too small to accommodate all those who wished to gain admittance, and the overflow was accommodated in (tie Municipal Chamber adjoining, in which amplifiers were installed.
