Caught on a ladder while replacing a light globe in the middle of the Mount Victoria tunnel yesterday afternoon, a tramway linesman mado a last-minuto jump to avoid an approaching tram which was travelling through tho tunnel at its usual speed. Tho linesman was Mr. A 1 e.vander Scott, and his last desperate move in jumping down from tho top of the ladder to tho side of the track probably saved his life. Ho suffered a severo compound fracture of the left leg.
