GOOD STEEPLES TUSSLE.

NASSOCK'S STAMINA TELLS. Only six started in the Man sere Ste°pjechase, but it proved a remarkably good contest, in which five of the candidates had a fine tussle over the last circuit. King's Counsel and Nassock were the favourites and they filled the dividend places in reverse order, Nassock staying on well to score narrowly. Neil led over the first fence and shortly afterwards Dominican went to the front lo make play up the hill two lengths clear of Neil, with an interval of three lengths to Town Beauty, Nassock and King's Counsel, who were together. These positions were maintained down the incline and over the double, but Dominican lost the lead at the fence near the mile post v where he failed to make a. good jump. King Counsel and Nassock went on together in the lead and they led over the fence at the six-furlongs post by just over a length from Dominican and Town Beauty. Going up the hill the second time there was not more than four lengths between these five horses, Neil, Ncssock and Dominical) being together in the lead, with King's Counsel and Town Beauty following closely. So they raced down the incline and Aassock was first over the stonewall into the straight, with Dominican. Neil, Town Beauty and King's Counsel all handy m a bunch. Just after landing over the last fence Kings Counsel pained the lead, but Nassock came again, and outstayed him at the end Neil was two and a-half lengths back third and Town Beauty was fourth, with Dominican fifth and .Arapawa over a furlong away. Nassock's stamina stood him 111 good stead at the finish and he is a fine steeplechaser in the making. King's Counsel covered a. pood deal of ground and he weakened just after getting to the front at the last fence. Neil did really well for his first attempt over country and Town, Beauty also made a good showing. Dominican went well until reaching the straight, but tired badly at the finish, and was walking very short when he pulled up.
