HOLIDAY MOTORING.
MANY CARS ON THE ROAD. RAIN IN DOME VALLEY. Although the weather was fine in Auckland yesterday, showers fell about mid-day in some of tho outlying districts, according to reports received by the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. In most places, tho rain was not sufficient to have any detrimental effect on the road surface, but in the Dome A alley, between Wollsford and Warkworth, tho clay route became difficult to negotiate. There were four or five cars in the valley when the sudden shower came, but all were driven out fairly easily with the assistance of the automobile association patrol, who was on duty in the vicinity throughout the day. The gates at either end of tho valley were closed as soon as possible after the shower, and no further traffic was allowed to use the road. It is hoped, however, to reopen the route for holiday traffic this morning. A largo number of motorists left Auckland yesterday, the majority carrying camping gear on their cars. Iraffic was fairly heavy on the northern roads in the morning, tho majority of tourists making an early start. There wero also many holiday motorists on the main Auckland-Hamilton-Rotorua road yesterday.
