"UNKIND SPEAKING."
Remarks on the misery caused by unkind speaking were made by Mr. Justice Rowlatt at Somerset Assizes at Taunton recently. The case was one in which damages amounting to £lO each and costs were awarded to Mrs. Hale, headmistress of Godney Council School, near Wells, and to her daughter, a temporary assistant teacher, against Edward Hayes, a correspondent to the Godney managers, for having made defamatory statements about them.
Mr. Justice Rowlatt remarked that about as much misery was caused bv unkind speaking as was caused by drink. It cost nobody anything to keep tlieir mouth shut, and it was a pity it was n6t more often done.
