THE CITY MARKETS.
YESTERDAY'S AUCTIONS.
HIGHER VALUES FOR EGGS
There was little change in the values for fruit at the City Markets yesterday compared with the prices ruling on Tuesday. Tomatoes remained dull of sale, there being practically no inquiry for second grade and cracked fruit. The rates for hothouse grapes were about ilia same, but good quality outdoor grapes showed a slight improvement. A fair demand existed for good Louis Bon pears, but other lines of this fruit were almost unsaleable. Considerably larger quantities of passion fruit came forward and sold at low prices. Bananas realised medium rates. Peaches are. practically finished and yesterday's prices for the limited stocks offered ranged from 3s to 5s 6d a case. The field produce market was heavily supplied with cabbage, cauliflower, pumpkin's, carrots and beetroot and there were good stocks of green peas, celery and other seasonal lines: A fair demand existed for most classes, the prices for which showed no outstanding change. Heavy offerings of poultry met with a poor demand and the values receded slightly. A further increase has occurred, in the rates for eggs.
