A GARDEN FETE.
PROTECTION OF WOMEN. FINE DISPLAY OF WORK. The result of several months' concentrated work by members and friends of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was displayed yesterday afternoon at a garden fete and sale of work organised for the second year in (succession by Mrs. G. C. Cruickshank and held at, the home of Mrs. Austin C'arr, 10, Ranfurly Road, Epsom. Ihe garden, with its widely sweeping lawns and profusion of gaily-coloured flowers, made an ideal setting for the, fete, a delightful and welcome coolness being provided by the shade of immense trees. During the past nine months friends of the society have met :| t, the home of Mrs, Cruickshank once a week where they have made garments and other commodities for the fair, while other help has been rendered by the ladies of tho social committee of the society. The function was officially opened by the. Rev. P. S. Smallfield. Musical selections by the Blind Institute Band were given during tho afternoon and were very much enjoyed. Those in charge of stalls were:—Sweet stall, Lady Leys and Mrs. J. Ivussell; work stall, Mrs. Thompson, Miss Bullcr, Miss Cutfield, Miss E. Robcrton and Miss Cook; cakes, Airs. H. P. Richmond, jNliss Lorna Leatham and Miss R. Robcrton; antique stall, Mrs. Ernest Davis and Mrs. Murdoch Smith; produce, Mrs. A. E. Devoro, Mrs. Preston Chambers, Mrs. R. L. Paterson, Mrs. Kemp, Miss Devoro, Miss Spencer, Miss Burleigh and Miss Hazel Harrisson; afternoon tea, Mrs. A. L. Stcadman, Mrs. Lawrence, Miss Jean Horslev, Miss Hilda Walkley, Miss Barbara Steadman, Misses Annette and Barbara George, Miss Marjorie Low; ice cream, Miss Joan Ewen and Miss J. Carnegie Brown; bran tub, Miss Valerie Peacock.
