MOTOR TAXATION.
DIVERSION OF FUNDS. PROTEST AGAINST PROPOSAL. [from our own correspondent.] FUKEKOHE. Friday. The proposal by the National Expenditure Commission that all moneys derived from motor taxation be diverted to the Consolidated Fund was criticised at last evening's meeting of the Pukekoho Chamber of Commerce. Members commented that it would not only be a breach of faith with those who paid the taxation to thus divert the proreeds, but it might also mean that ratepayers would be denied the relief they were entitled to expect from the petrol and tyre taxes. It was decided that a remit protesting against the proposal be' forwarded to the half-yearly conference of the chambers of commerce in Franklin and adjoining districts, to be held at Papatoetoe on Wednesday next.
