EMPIRE'S LONELIEST ISLAND.
The little island t>f Tristan da Cunha, the loneliest place in the British Empire, will shortly receive its first supply of stores for over two and a-lialf years. On instructions from the Imperial Government, H.M.S. Carlisle recently left Soutti Africa with stores. Among the warship's cargo were a number of oars contributed by the King and a butter churn given by tho Queen. During the Carlisle's stay at the island inquiries were to be made about the living conditions of the islanders and of tho practicability of establishing a meteorological and wireless station for broadcasting meteorological data for shipping. Medical and dental treatment will be given to those islanders who need it.
