MUSSOLINI'S PREFERENCE. GERMAN - NEWSPAPER'S LIST. Mussolini's favourite film is " Trader Horn." "It is the only film I have seen a second time," says II Duce. Paderewski, the famous pianist, is more modest in his screen taste. He prefers Charlie Chaplin and films of the Wild West. William Randolph Hearst, America's Newspaper King, is influenced by subject rather than treatment. " ' Hell Divers ' made the greatest impression on me. But that may be due to personal reasons, as I am especially interested in the Navy and Air Force,' he said. These screen views of international celebrities are published by the Berlin newspaper, Der Deutsche, which annually invites famous people in all walks of life to name the best films of the year. According to this ballot, the outstanding pictures of 1931 were as follows: (1) f ' Girls in Uniform;" (2) "Congress Dances;" (3) " Cimarron(4) " Comradeship;" (5) "Mountains in Flames;" (6) "The Way in Life;" (7) " Skippy;" (8) Fritz Lang's "M;" (9) "Morocco;" and (10) " The Brothers Karamazoff." " Girls in Uniform " was produced as a co-operative enterprise, by a group of Berlin actresses at a total cost of £4OOO, and has already earned a fortune. It is a purely feminine picture without a single male character in the 6tory. Efforts are being made to secure a screening of the production for the Film Society. Several of the pictures mentioned will shortly be seen in New Zealand, while others aro not likely to be released here.
