HORSES IN ACTION.

LIGHT AND DRAUGHT TYPES.

good jumping displays, interest of the public. Some good horses wore scon in the light horse sections at the Show and the exhibits of draught horses were considered to bo very good. ' The judge oh the light horses, Mr. 11. A. Russell, of Hastings, said some of tho newer entries showed promise and the champion hack would hold its own in any show in New Zealand. Hie jumping was exceptionally good. •

Tho light harness horses were more of tho trotter type than tho old recognised carriage horse, but were very good in their class. In judging tho hunters it had to bo remembered that manners and type were taken into consideration as well as the actual jumping. "lho farmers' draught horses were particularly good, there being some excellent mares. Several wore above the average. Tho general purpose horses were a very good class, as were tho artillery horses. The one-year and two-year entries wore well grown and active, and the pairs suitable for farm work were sound and of very good quality. They wore held to be a credit to any show. Tho town draughts will be judged to-day.

The public showed a keen interest in tho jumping events, a large proportion of tho patrons of lho Show spending most of the afternoon around the ring. Applause was frequent as some particularly fine animal was seen in action. The light harness entries also gave good exhibitions, which evoked praise from the spectators.
