ORDER FOR MAINTENANCE.

SUPREME COURT APPEAL. REDUCTION OF AMOUNT. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. An appeal against I lie decision of Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson in tlio case in which niaintcnanco and guardianship orders were granted in favour of Davena Ireland against her husband, Thomas Ireland, was heard before Mr. Justice Smith in tho Supreme Court at Hamilton yesterday. Decision in the case was given to-day. Reviewing the evidence, His Honor said the course of the parties' married life had not run smoothly. They were married in 1002, and after tho birth of the first child they separated for 16 years. In 1919 appellant and his wife were re-united, and a second child was born in 1922. Tho parties lived together until October, 1931, after which they occupied separate rooms. In December, 1931, tho wife complained that her husband had failed to provide her with maintenance. She, also applied for maintenance and a guardianship order with respect to the youngest child. Appellant was ordered to pay respondent 35s a week with respect to the maintenance of respondent and her child. A guardianship order was also granted. II is Honor held that Mrs. Ireland was a destitute person, and was unable, owing to her family cares, to earn her own living. His Honor dismissed tho appeal, but considered tho amount of tho orders was excessive. Ho reduced the maintenance from 35s to 25s a week.
