ELLERSLIE TRAINING.

PURIRI PARK'S SOLID SIX. GREAT EMBLEM AND SIR MOND. KILTOWYN SPRINTS NICELY. BY ARCHER. Conditions were excellent for {mining operations nt Ellorelio yesterday, when some very interesting work was porfornied by candidates for the To Aroha meeting. Most of tlie galloping was accomplished on tho No. 1 crass, bnt 'several horses were worked on tho course proper, where the flairs were out 25ft. The best gallop of the morning was credited to JL'nriri Park, who was responsible for a good six furlongs, and others who went wfcll included Great Emblem, Sir Mond, Grand Spirit and Karangapai. On the No. 1 grass Ornamental (Fuller), after a slow first furlong in 30 2-ss, completed five furlongs in 1.8 2-5; Ornamental has not been overtaxed since racing at Rotorua. but she. appears to have 'benefited by her race there and may now mako more rapid progress. Karangapai (Parsons* and Desert Star (Ludlow) were timed to run tho last four of five furlongs in 52 l-ss. They both went with plenty of freedom and Karangapai was going the stronger at the finish. Desert Star has mado some headway lately and his latest track efforts have been quito good enough to mako him a possibility in the iiovice class at To Aroha. Great Emblem (L. Munson) and Sir Mond (McCurdy) ran their first throo furlongs in :19 l-5s and completed seven furlongs in 1.32 'l-5, It was a nice piece of work on the part of both horses, particularly Great Emblem, who was going strongly with a slight advantage at the finish. Great Emblem is Ijio most-improved horso at Ellerslio and should run a solid race in tho Champion Huck Cup at Tc Aroha. Vandyke's Useful Six. Vandyke (Simpson) was not hustled to run six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. Vandyke has appreciated the easing of the trucks after the recent rain nud lie has been doing liis work in goodAtyle. If he jumps out well. Vandyke wul™iot be disgraced among the sprinters at Te Aroha to-morrow. Brampton (Buchanan) and Nc.il (light boy) ran the last seven furlongs of a round in 1.12 2-5. Brampton has been racinc below form lately, but Neil has brightened up and should be in fine trim for the autumn meetings, when lie should have excellent prospects in hurdle events. Spring Abbey (Ludlow) and Hose Latour (Murray) did a working gallop over a round in 1.59 2-5. Spring Abbey is returning to form and Rose Latour is showing improved condition. These horses will probably lace next at Pukekobe. The Norge (Jenkins) and the Kilbroney filly in A. Kemp's stable sprinted four furlongs in 6a 1-53. There was little between them at tho finish, but the Kilbroney filly was going the better. She is on the improve and should be ready to have a race very shortly. Puriri Park (Fuller), with Hampton Park (Simpson) to assist over tho last five furlongs. galloped six furlongs in 1.17 2-ss. Puriri Park was very lightly weighted, but lie had the measure of Hampton Park at the finish and appears to be coming right back to form. Hampton Park's effort was very satisfactory, us he was carrying a fairly good weight. Grand Spirit Pleases. Grand Spirit (Gall) and Dominican (Craddock) encompassed a round in 1.57 1-5. running the last mile in 1.40 1-5. They kept well together until near the finish, when Grand Spirit drew out to finish about a length ahead. Grand Spirit covered n lot of ground and her work was pleasingly accomplished. Dominican's effort was very satisfactory for a lazy worker and it is doubtful whether ho has ever been better than at present. Thespis (McMahon) and Haakon (11. Dulieu) sprinted four furlongs in 51 l-ss. These horses are being prepared for hunters' e.vents at the white;' meetings and have both accomplished some schooling in private. Thespis had a slight advantage iu this gallop, but.Haakon shaped creditably considering that he was having his first serioiw sprint. . • . To Money (Bigham). after getting the better of an uneven jump-off. came awuv from Pal (Ludlow) in the straight to give him a decisive heating over six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. Tc Money is retaining her form mid should b§ ready for a solid effort at Pukekohe. ; " .VilttW (Cammick) was going well within herself while running five furlongs in l.f> ;i-5. This novice is on the upgrade and should be a possibility at Pukekoho if she maintains her present rate of progress. Marching Song (Ryan) strode for three furlongs in 40 3-55., Marching Song is still slovenly in his slow movements, but he does his work satisfactorily and is steadily gaining condition. Manawhenua Shows Dash. Escalus (Parsons) sprinted half a mile in 51 3-as without being called upon for his very best. T. It. George has Escalus in good condition for his coming engagements, which include the six-furlong hack event at Pukekohe next week. Moonfleet and the two-year-old Lady Cnrrington were sprinted up the straight, while Roman Mascot alid Corinax separately worked at three-quarter pace. Corinax lias been thriving on his work and J. Williamson will shortly be able to send him along more seriously. On the course proper Mnnawhenua (Chaplin) led Taneriri (Roberts) and 'l'ahae Mea (Jenkins) over three furlongs from the mile to the five-furlongs post in 375. Manawhenua went with 'plenty of dash and is rapidly returning to racing condition after a spell from racing since lost September. Tho two-year-old Kiltowyn (Chaplin) was going well within himself to run three furlongs in 39 3-ss. It was his first serious effort for some weeks and he revelled in his task. Kiltowyn is one of the most promising young horses -nt Ellerslio and Mr, A. D. Potter is content at present to keep him in healthy condition without hurrying to get him ready, for racing. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE. TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. The Palmer.-lon North trainer G. W. New, who accepted with King Colossus and itsulbowline foe Te Aroha to-morrow, has decided not to mako the trip. Havering, form :»,t the holulny meetings was much below his best, has been found to be suffering front some unknown malady and has been thrown out of training. Although no definite announcement has yet been made, it is more than likely that P. 11. Morris will rido Peter Jackson in the Merries' Memorial Cup at To Aroha to-morrow. "Morris has been riding well this season and is a strong horseman who should gel the best out. of Peter Jackson. a. lazy horse, who requires vigorous riding. Elude, winner of (lie Hornby Handicap at Rircurlon last Saturday, is another of the Ni,"hl. Raid breed to come right with n~e. lie is a big gelding with an exceptionally long stride and recnis able to handle soft, going well. He is the first, horse trained by Freeman Holmes since lie re-entered the ranks of trainers of gallopers a, few months ago and he has a halfintorsi in the lease. As far buck as 18H7 Holmes rode a. dead-heat for first place in the Midsummer Handicap, then one mile and three-quarters. His mount was Derwente, tyis, Osf. and in the run-off he was beaten by S. Higgott's I'tifriciaii, 4yi's, li.il. ridden by Dodd. Elude will probably fipure as a hurdler later on.
