PORK AND BACON.
SPECIAL SHOW CLASSES. Increased attention is being given to pigs at the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show this year, special bacon and export pork classes having been provided. Pig-raising is one of the avenues through which farmers have been urged io seek additional profits and the opinion has been expressed that the Auckland Province must take the lead in any forward move in this direction. Almost half the pigs in the Dominion are to be found within its borders, while climate and other conditions are favourable to the industry's expansion. New Zealand, as a whole, is reputed to offer greater advantages than any other new country for the development of a flourishing pig-raising industry, and the conditions which render this possible are present in their most favourable degree in the north. The special classes at the show, therefore, make an appropriate appeal. The bacon pigs will be judged at the show and awards made, after which they will be killed and cured for exhibition at the Auckland Winter Show, when further prizes will be given. Awards will also be made in the porker class at the show, hut in this case the entries will be killed for export to Smithfield, additional prizes beinff given on the results of the judging there.
