OPOTIKI BOROUGH.
DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL. [FROM OUII OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OFOTIKI, Thursday. The Opotiki Borough Council has decided that the necessary steps be taken to adopt a by-law, prohibiting the hawking ol' all perishable goods in the borough with the exception of fish, fruit and vegetables. An application for a slaughterhouse licenco within the borough was opposed by a letter on behalf, of a number of residents. It was decided to view the proposed si to beforo deciding to grant the licence. A motion was moved by Mr. Tabb that a finance committee of three be appointed, but it was defeated by 5 to 2. It was decided to approach the Defence Department with the view of making an exchange of the Drill Hall site for a borough section. The town clerk said the rates were coming in satisfactorily, the amount collected to date being 9 per cent, ahead of last year.
