OBITUARY.
MRS. W. OWEN GARLAND. The late Mrs. W. Owen Garland, whoso death occurred in Auckland recently at the ago of 75 years, was tho daughter of Mr. Joseph Andrew Tapper, who came to New Zealand with his parents in 1842, Mrs. Garland was horn in Auckland, and was one of the first children to bo christened in the original St. Matthew's Church. For many years she was headmistress of St. Matthew's School. In tho early 'eighties she was a popular vocalist in Auckland. Before her marriage she was for many years contralto soloist at St. Mark's Church, Remuera. Mrs. Garland always took an active interest in church and choir activities, and of latter years, while residing at Matamata, was president of tho Anglican ladies' - guild. Mrs.' Garland is survived by her husband and a grown-up family, Mr. G. Garland and Mrs. G. V. Woods, of Dargavillo, Mrs, 11. R. Hesketh, and Mrs. O. Pilkington, of Auckland, and Mrs. G. M. Tombs, of Dunodin. MR. DONALD MUNRO. The death of Mr. Donald Munro, aged 84, a Maori War veteran, occurred yestorday at the residence of bis daughter, Mrs. A. Donald, Alexander Road, Papuloetoe. Born at Caithness, Scotland, Mr, Munro came to Auckland in the ship Silver Eagle in 1866 and two years later joined the Constabulary nt. Hamilton. He served in the war in Taranaki. Afterwards Mr. Munro took up farming at Pnterangi, Waikato, and retired in 1915. He is survived by an adulfc family of nine.
