WHAKATANE INTERESTS.
APPOINTMENT OF LIBRARIAN. A special meeting of tho Whakatane Library Committee was held Inst evening, and a resolution of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mr. 11. A. Prideaux, who was formerly librarian. Mis. H. A. Prideaux was mado a life member and Mrs. Leo Prideaux was appointed librarian. Several applications for assistance were received at a meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association held last evening. Tho secretary was directed to write to the Borough Council asking that, in the appointment of a town clerk, preference should he given, if possible, to an applicant who was a returned soldier.
A committee was formed to organiso dances to augment tho funds of tho association.
