MINISTERS' APPOINTMENTS
PRESBYTERIAN PROPOSAL. FIXED TERM OF FIVE YEARS. [by telegraph.—press association.] C'HRISTCSTJRCH. Thursday. A proposal to limit ministers' appointments to charges for a fixed term of five years provoked lengthy discussion at this morning's session of the Presbyterian General Assembly. The discussion arose as the result of a remit from Hawke's Bay advocating a fixed term of five years, with the proviso that a congregation might extend the term for a further two years. Mr. C. Duff (Ilawke's Bay) said that if the proposal were put into effect there would be no unemployment among ministers and equal opportunities would bo provided for all. The Assembly decided to refer tie question to presbyteries and sessions for consideration.
