CHILD MISSES BIRTHDAY.
NONE FOR EIGHT YEArtS.
UNUSUAL LEAP YEAR CASE.
Of those Auckland residents who were born on February 29 111 a Leap "iear, there is one who did not enjoy any birthday celebrations until he was eight years old. Mr. Tj. J. Minogue, warehouse manager of A. H. Nathan, Limited, was born in 1896. but was unable to participate in a real birthday function until 1904. Every year whoso number is exactly divisible by four is a leap year, and full centuries must be divisible by 400 without remainder. Therefore, the year 1900 was not a leap-year. " A peculiar featuro about having a, birthday on February 29 is the number of people who remember that you have one only every four years. ' said_ Mr. Minogue. "In the intervening period I seldom think about my birthday, but th* lapse of lime certainly sharpens one s sense of appreciation when the event actually does come round." Mr. Minogue was born in Auckland, and in his young days took an active part in athletics. He is at present captain of the Pupuko Golf Club. He has been with A. 11. Nathan, Limited, for 13 years.
